May 8-10 - Technical Touch Session

(don't need cones use anything to mark)

When performing these drills use as many different parts of your feet as possible.  Don't get comfortable with one type of touch.  The Touch Series (#4) is a clickable link to a youtube video demonstrating each skill.

1.  Sky touch - toss the ball high into the air, or volley the ball straight up and practice settling the ball keeping it in the 5x5 grid.  As you get better shrink the grid.  Practice using top of foot, chest, quad.  Also use the half volley, ie chest, ground, touch.

2.  Simple Wall - Place a cone 3 yards from a wall.  Pass the ball into the wall with your right from the right side of the cone.  Pass the ball so you can receive it back on the left side of the cone.  Pass the ball into the wall with left foot and receive on right.

3.  Simple Wall with a partner - same as #2.  Player in yellow dribble from cone to center plays a one touch on each side of the cone then runs back to original cone and perform the same from the player in red.  After doing a rep switch corners.

4.  Touch Series - Click "Touch Series" to see examples of all of the following touches:  Side to side - 50 Inside outside right - 50 Inside outside left - 50 inside left outside right - 50 Alternate Stanley Matthew - 25 Sole touches - 50 Sole touches forward and backwards - 50 Sole Swipes - 50 Ball Squirts - 50 Roll Across - 50 Triangles - 50 Push Pull Side - 50 Push Pull Instep - 50 Pull Back V Inside - 50 Pull Back V Outside - 50 Full pull backs - 50 Pull Back & Tap Behind - 50 Stationary behind the leg and touch outside - 50 Cruyff Turns Left and Right - 25 Step Overs - 50 Scissors - 50

5.  Play from a spot w/partner - Have a partner play a pass into a 4x4 grid.  Receive the ball keeping it inside the grid.  As you get more comfortable shrink your receiving grid.

6.  Play from a spot w/wall - same as #5 but use a wall.  Play the ball different ways to receive inside the grid.  Be sure to shrink the grid to challenge your skills.

Partner Passing Session

1. Play a diagonal pass then move to the square position corner.  Play the ball into the corner space, don't wait until the player gets to the corner.  Keep the rotation going.

2. Find a wall pass back and forth with your partner off the wall.  Focus on keeping feet moving and first touch.

3.  Start with a pass, as partner receives he performs a touch exercise with the ball while the initial passer runs away 5 yards and then checks back.  Pass the ball as player is still approaching.  Change pace as you turn.  Receive the ball at speed.  Focus on first touch.  Touch exercises can be shuffle, ball taps, outside right inside right, outside left inside left, outside right inside right to left outside left inside left to right, etc

4.  Pass and receive from each of the three positions.  Perform the following touches:

        a. two touch from each side of cone

        b. one touch from each side of the cone

        c.  receive shuffle ball to other side of the cone then pass

5.  One touch challenge - start out 3 yards apart play 20 perfect 1 touch passes then extend back a couple yards and repeat.  Continue doing this until you are 11 or more yards apart.

Pass, Receive, and Move Technical Session

Perform each drill in order for 10-12 minutes each.

1. Create a 5 yard triangle, one player passes to the player in the triangle.  The triangle player receives the ball keeping the ball inside the triangle with first touch, then second touch should be to direct the ball out through one of the triangle sides and then pass back to the passer.  Repeat and go through a different side of the triangle.  Shrink the triangle as you get comfortable then switch to a square doing the same thing.  Start the square at 4-5 yards then shrink it down to 2.

2. Octagon - Same as #1 but with more sides.  start with a 5-7 yard triangle and then shrink as you become more comfortable.
